NV Champalou Vouvray Brut

The grapes for the Vouvray Brut are picked at maturity, and early in the morning to best respect the quality of the fruit. The must is then fermented in stainless steel and the wine is raised on fine lees before bottling. A second natural fermentation takes place once the wine is in bottle that gives its effervescence. The bottles are aged sur lattes for two years before disgorgement. The Vouvray Brut "Méthode Traditionnelle" is a blending of three different vintages per cuvée.

Chardonnay

2012 Testarossa Chardonnay

Working closely with the top vineyards in the Santa Lucia Highlands’ appellation, Testarossa has produced yet another distinctive vintage of this highly anticipated Chardonnay. The Highlands is one of the state’s best-known regions for world-class Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The area’s close proximity to Monterey Bay makes for a very cool climate, with one of California’s longest growing seasons. The resulting slow, gentle ripening allows for full flavor development on the vine. Testarossa’s production team’s partnership with the best estates in the Santa Lucia Highlands ensuring only the highest quality fruit makes it to the winery.  5,286 cases of this 2014 vintage have been produced.

2010 Mount Eden Vineyards Estate Chardonnay

The full bodied Estate Chardonnay displays fine underlying acidity and a long finish. Hints of cardamom, anise and hazelnut add interest to the core lemon, mineral flavors. Of all Mount Eden's estate-grown wines, the Chardonnay is most in need of further bottle aging at release, requiring an additional two to four years to fully reveal its true character. Many vintages are still fresh and enjoyable after fifteen years, explaining why Mount Eden Estate Chardonnay is considered one of California's longest-lived white wines.

2013 Domaine Eden Chardonnay

Domaine Eden's 2013 Chardonnay is subtle, poised and gracious to the core. Dried pear, dried flowers, sage, mint and chamomile grace the palate in this understated, exquisite Chardonnay. Hints of smoke, slate and dried pear reappear on the super-classic, expressive finish. What a gorgeous wine this is. Quite simply, the 2013 Domaine Eden Chardonnay is a tremendous wine for the money. In 2013, the blend is approximately 72% declassified Mt. Eden juice and 28% wine from the Domaine Eden estate proper. Jeffrey Patterson is one of the most laid back producers in California. His wines? They speak volumes. The Chardonnays are particularly strong this year at both the Domaine Eden and Mount Eden labels. Patterson told me 2013 a drought year, reminds him of 1984. I will take his word for it, as I was barely a teenager at the time. But tasting the wines, it is clear they are truly special from top to bottom.”

Interesting Whites

2015 Twomey, Sauvignon Blanc

Our 2015 Sauvignon Blanc is an alluring, expressive wine embodying the facets of our four estate vineyards. The blend of mineral-driven fruit from the Sonoma County vineyards and the lush tropical aromas derived from the Napa Valley vineyards develops complexity in the glass. Hints of white gold and straw illuminate this wine. The bouquet bursts with mango, guava and gardenias, while the sculpted palate focuses citrus and minerality into lime zest and wet slate. The bright attack, rich full body and refreshingly long finish are redolent of citrus acidity. The perfumed tropical notes stem from the dynamic terroir we work with. This is a medium weight wine to be paired with a variety of foods from an hors d’oeuvre of zesty gazpacho to a creamy seafood risotto. It will be a pleasant accompaniment to any meal. Our 2015 Sauvignon Blanc is a wine to be enjoyed throughout the year.

Interesting Reds

2013 Turley Zinfandel Fredericks Vineyard

Grapes for this wine are sourced from the certified organic vineyard, owned by Dick Fredericks, which was planted in 1937. Though technically within the Sonoma Valley appellation, the vineyard is actually located about 900 feet up along very steep contoured terraces. Turley feels lucky to work with this vineyard, as it is very rare to find hillside head-trained old vines. The wines are high in acid, bright, balanced, with well-integrated fruit & tannin.

2013 Voyage 4 By Caymus Malbec Argentina

RED SCHOONER Voyage 4: A "Caymus style" of Mendoza Malbec. Definitely an iron st in a velvet glove. Rich fine tannin - a Mendoza dust fine texture. There is a very refined character to this wine, which is special and singular. This wine is unfined and has already thrown a bit of sediment, representing the rich and natural concentration of abundant quality.

TASTING NOTES: A deep plum color, this wine offers evocative scents of dark fruits, layered with cassis, hot cocoa and the fresh earthiness that comes after a summer rain. It enters playfully on the palate, featuring lush fruit flavors of dark plums and ripe cherries, along with brown spice and a hint of cinnamon. The tannins of this wine add both structure and velvety softness. Lingering flavors of dark fruit and choclate creat a complete and harmonious finish.

2014 Turley Zinfandel Cobb Vineyard

Planted at 1500 feet on the volcanic, granitic hillside near our new property in Amador, the Cobb Vineyard Zinfandel is an homage to Buck Cobb, owner of the vineyard and from whom we purchased the Karly property. The rocky conditions and more extreme weather (including snow!) in this dry-farmed vineyard make for a hearty, robust Zinfandel.

2015 Daou Vineyards 'Reserve' Cabernet Sauvignon

A rich and compelling nose of black currant, ripe Bing cherries and smoky, toasty oak is redolent of warm cherry pie and blackberry cobbler. Behind the very forward dark fruits lie notes of black olive, licorice, crème de menthe, crushed stone and just a hint of ground espresso bean. On the palate is a veritable explosion of fresh fruit flavors, plump, voluptuous and pure. Blackberry, plum and cherry, and even nuances of pomegranate and cranberry. A steely, dusty minerality underlies this solid fruit core, latent power obscured by an oh-so silky texture. A firm handshake in a velvet glove. An amazing finish that replays the currant and black cherry layers interspersed with herbs and sandalwood that just won’t let go. It is in this finish where the power and purity of this wine is proven.
